CRACKING MOMENT STRENGTH OF A MASONRY WALL

The cracking moment strength of a wall, Mcr , is determined as follows:

Mcr = 2Igfr/t

Where: fr = the modulus of rupture for calculating deflection equal to 2.5(fm)0.5 and fm is the stress in the masonry
t = The actual thickness of the wall, inches.
I =The gross moment of inertia of the wall, in4

The cracking moment strength along with the gross moment of inertia, I , are listed below for various wall thicknesses and reinforcing spacings.
