Thermal Contact Resistance and Temperature Difference

This analysis calculates the temperature difference and the thermal contact conductance (thermal resistance) for an interface formed by two conforming, rectangular, rough surfaces as a function of contact pressure in low pressure ranges.



Complete the following input.

Input the Contact Pressure of Surfaces in MPa
Input the Width of common surface in meters
Input the Length of common surface in meters
Input the Heat Load on Surface 1 in W

Input the Microhardness of Surface 1 in MPa
Input the Effective RMS Surface Roughness 1 in Micrometer
Input the Thermal Conductivity of Surface 1 in W/(m oC)
Input the Absolute Asperity Slope = 0.125 (sig1).0402

SURFACE 2

Input the Microhardness of Surface 2 in MPa
Input the Effective RMS Surface Roughness 2 in Micrometer
Input the Thermal Conductivity of Surface 2 in W/(m oC)

INTERFACE MATERIAL

Input the Thermal Conductivity of Gap Substance in W/(m oC)
Input the Gas Parameter (@ T0 = 50oC and P0 = 1 atm) (M0 = 0 for liquid) in m
